Tourist arrested with loaded revolver in Mandarmani after secret surveillance by police

A tourist was arrested in Mandarmani after being found carrying a loaded revolver during his visit to the coastal town. The tourist, identified as Kaushik Roy, a poultry trader from Mothabari, Malda, was staying at a hotel in Mandarmani with his family. He had previously visited Digha before heading to Mandarmani for a peaceful retreat.

Roy was found with a 9mm pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition. Police, acting on intelligence, were able to apprehend him during their surveillance. According to police sources, Roy had visited Digha for a religious visit and was continuing his journey to Mandarmani. Police are now questioning him about the origin of the firearm and his intentions behind carrying it during his vacation.

The arrest has raised concerns about security in popular tourist destinations. Local authorities have confirmed that the firearm was not registered, and they are conducting a thorough investigation into how Roy obtained the weapon. After his arrest, Kaushik Roy was taken to the Kanthi Sub-Divisional Court, where his bail was rejected. He remains in custody, and the police continue to investigate the matter.
